Wellington Arch

Wellington Arch stands at Hyde Park Corner, marking one of the grand ceremonial entrances into central London. Decimus Burton designed it in the 1820s as a triumphal arch commemorating Britain's victory in the Napoleonic Wars, though the monument changed form and location before settling into its present role.

The bronze quadriga on top, showing Peace descending on a chariot of war, gives the arch its skyline presence. Inside, English Heritage runs a small exhibition, and the upper balconies give a compact but unusual view over Hyde Park Corner, Constitution Hill, and the traffic swirling below.
