The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology is University College London's dense, old-school collection of Egyptian and Sudanese objects. It began as a teaching collection linked to Flinders Petrie, one of the most important and controversial figures in British archaeology.
The displays are smaller and quieter than the British Museum, but serious: beadwork, pottery, papyri, funerary masks, sculpture fragments and everyday objects fill the cases. It is especially rewarding if you like archaeology more than blockbuster museum staging.
