The Roundhouse

Round Victorian engine shed turned landmark music and performing-arts venue

The Roundhouse is one of London's great performance spaces, built in 1847 as a railway engine turntable shed and converted in the 1960s into a venue that has hosted everyone from Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix to contemporary touring acts. The circular brick drum is unmistakable, and the main space — a steeply raked auditorium under the original iron columns and roof — is a fine place to see a gig.

Beyond concerts, the Roundhouse runs theatre, circus, spoken word, and an active programme for young people in its studios. Check what is on before you visit; a show here is one of the best nights out in Camden. It sits at the Chalk Farm end of the neighbourhood, a short walk above the markets.
