Ali Pasha Mosque

The Ali Pasha Mosque (Ali-pašina džamija) is a 16th-century Ottoman mosque in the Centar neighbourhood, away from the tourist density of Baščaršija. Built in 1561 during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, it is one of the earliest surviving Ottoman mosques in Bosnia and reflects the classical Ottoman style in its proportions and decoration — a single dome, a portico, and a minaret.

The mosque is an active place of worship rather than a tourist attraction, which means it is quieter and more genuine in atmosphere than the more-visited Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque nearby. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside prayer times. The courtyard has a small garden with old tombstones. Worth including on any serious exploration of Sarajevo's Ottoman heritage.
