Konak is a 19th-century Ottoman governor's residence just outside Sarajevo's old bazaar area. Built in 1868 in a late Baroque style for Ottoman officials, it later served the Austro-Hungarian administration and hosted Emperor Franz Josef during his 1910 visit.
The building is now a state residence, so visits are mostly about seeing the exterior and understanding its place in the city's political history. It works best as a short stop while walking between the National Library, Latin Bridge, and the eastern end of the old town.
