Visegrad Gate is one of the old entrances through Sarajevo's Vratnik fortifications, on the hillside above the compact Ottoman core. The gate and surrounding walls belong to the defensive ring built after the city had already grown into an important Balkan town.
It is a small sight, but a useful one if you are walking uphill through Vratnik. The reward is not only the masonry; it is the way the lanes, walls, and views back over Sarajevo help you understand how tightly the city sits in its valley.
