Mexicantown is a working Mexican neighbourhood in southwest Detroit, on either side of Bagley and Vernor avenues. It is one of the largest Latino communities in the Midwest, with grocery stores, panaderías, an annual Cinco de Mayo parade, and a stretch of Vernor lined with murals. The food is the main draw for outsiders: Taqueria El Rey, Taqueria Mi Pueblo, El Asador Steakhouse for Mexican-style steak, and the dueling old-school sit-down spots Los Galanes and Mexican Village.
The neighbourhood is bisected by I-75. A walking visit usually combines a meal with a coffee and pastry at La Gloria Bakery and a stroll up Bagley. The Ambassador Bridge to Windsor is at the western edge.
