Eastern Market

Six-block farmers market operating since 1891

Address 2934 Russell St, Detroit, MI 48207

Eastern Market is one of the oldest and largest farmers markets in the United States, filling six city blocks just northeast of downtown. The Saturday market is the big day, with hundreds of stalls of produce, flowers, meat, cheese, baked goods, and prepared food, attracting tens of thousands. A smaller Sunday market focuses on artisans and prepared food, and a Tuesday market runs in summer.

The surrounding warehouses have been transformed by the Murals in the Market festival, which has turned the sheds and back walls into a permanent open-air gallery of large-scale street art. Eat a brisket sandwich at Bert's Marketplace, grab pierogi or paczki from one of the Polish stalls, and walk it off looking at the murals.
