Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory

Glass-domed botanical conservatory on Belle Isle

The conservatory, also designed by Albert Kahn and opened in 1904, is the second-oldest continuously running conservatory in the country. The central glass dome rises 85 feet over a palm house, with wings dedicated to ferns, cacti, and a tropical collection that includes a noted orchid display bequeathed in 1955 by Anna Scripps Whitcomb. The orchids alone number in the hundreds.

It sits next door to the Belle Isle Aquarium, making them an easy pair. Free admission. Open daily.
