The Fillmore Detroit is a grand old theatre beside the Fox, built as a movie palace and later reborn as one of downtown's main live-music venues. Its Renaissance Revival interior gives even a loud rock show a bit of old Detroit ceremony.
It is worth checking the calendar if you are staying downtown. The building is most rewarding when you can see it in use, with the lobby, balconies, and painted details lit up for a performance.
