Pewabic Pottery

Working studio producing the iridescent tile found across Detroit

Address 10125 E Jefferson Ave, Detroit, MI 48214

Pewabic Pottery has been producing its distinctive iridescent ceramic tile in Detroit since 1903. Mary Chase Perry Stratton founded the studio, developed the metallic glaze that became its signature, and supplied tile to the Guardian Building, the Detroit Public Library, the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, and countless private fireplaces. The pottery is still a working studio and a National Historic Landmark.

The building is open free to the public, with two galleries, a museum on the second floor, and a shop selling tiles and tableware. Classes and workshops are offered for short visits and longer residencies. The studio sits a short walk from the West Village neighbourhood and Belle Isle.
