Book Tower

38-storey Beaux-Arts tower restored to mixed use

Address 1265 Washington Blvd, Detroit, MI 48226

The Book Tower is a 38-storey Beaux-Arts skyscraper completed in 1926 by the Book brothers, real-estate developers who wanted to turn Washington Boulevard into Detroit's Fifth Avenue. The building rises into a copper-clad pyramid and is decorated with caryatids, putti, and shields. It stood mostly empty for decades but reopened in 2023 after a multi-year restoration as a hotel, apartments, and offices.

The ground-floor public spaces include the soaring restored rotunda, a coffee shop, and several restaurants. The Roost Apartment Hotel occupies the upper floors. A walk past or through is free; the rooftop is for guests.
