Dearborn

Western suburb with the Henry Ford and a large Arab-American community

Dearborn is technically a separate city west of Detroit, but it functions as part of the metropolitan core. Henry Ford was born here, headquartered Ford here, and built the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village complex on the family farm. Ford World Headquarters (the Glass House) is still on Michigan Avenue. The Arab American National Museum on Michigan Avenue is the only museum in the country devoted to Arab-American history.

Dearborn has the largest Arab-American population of any city in the United States — Lebanese, Iraqi, and Yemeni in particular. The food scene reflects it: Al-Ameer, Shatila Bakery, La Pita, and Hamido are some of the long-standing names. Warren Avenue between Greenfield and Schaefer is the densest stretch.
