The Belt

Downtown alley turned into a rotating outdoor art gallery

Address 1234 Library St, Detroit, MI 48226

The Belt is a downtown alley between Gratiot, Broadway, John R, and Grand River that Bedrock and the Library Street Collective transformed into a pedestrian art corridor. Large-scale murals by major contemporary artists rotate every year or two, and permanent works include a James Turrell light installation, a Shepard Fairey wall, and a Faile installation. The alley is lined with bars (Standby, the Skip) and restaurants (Grey Ghost is around the corner).

Free, open at all hours, lit well at night. A quick wander on a downtown evening before dinner.
