The financial district within Pudong — the specific cluster of supertall towers that constitutes Shanghai's famous skyline when viewed from the Bund across the Huangpu River. Three towers define the group: the Shanghai Tower (632 metres, second tallest in the world), the Shanghai World Financial Center with its square aperture at the top (nicknamed "the bottle opener"), and the Jin Mao Tower with its pagoda-derived silhouette. All three have observation decks; the Shanghai Tower's is the highest.
The elevated walkways connecting the towers make for an unusual street-level experience — or above-street-level, since the entire district is built on a series of podium levels. The Oriental Pearl Tower, the first major Pudong structure from 1994, now looks almost vintage beside its neighbours. The river promenade in front of the towers offers the best view of the Bund's colonial architecture from the opposite bank.
