The 118th floor observation deck of Shanghai Tower at 546 metres is the highest public access point in China and the second-highest observation deck in the world. On a clear day — best after rainfall when particulates clear — the view extends across the Yangtze Delta to the horizon. The city below is reduced to a pattern of grids and curves, the Bund waterfront a thin line at the bend of the river.
The elevator ascent (100 km/h, 55 seconds) is itself remarkable. The deck is climate-controlled and has glass-panel floor sections. Pre-booking online is strongly recommended for weekends and peak season; same-day tickets are usually available on weekdays. Century Avenue; Metro Lujiazui.
