The blocks around Weihai Road and Xikang Road in Jing'an have developed a secondary gallery cluster, separate from M50, with a focus on established contemporary Chinese artists and a clientele of serious collectors. The galleries here are generally more commercial than M50's artist-studio model and more accessible for visitors who want to see finished work.
Several of Shanghai's most established commercial galleries (ShanghART, Aike Dellarco, and others) have locations in this area. The gallery openings on first weekends of the month bring multiple shows open simultaneously. The neighbourhood's retail character — quieter than the Nanjing Road commercial strip — makes it a good area for a slow afternoon walk combining gallery visits.
