Century Avenue (Boulevard Walk)

4-kilometre boulevard running from the Lujiazui roundabout to Century Park

The main boulevard of Lujiazui, running 4 kilometres from the Lujiazui roundabout east to Century Park, Century Avenue is one of the most ambitious pieces of urban boulevard planning in China. Eight lanes of traffic separated by a broad tree-planted central reservation, flanked by tower development and metro stations at regular intervals.

The scale is designed for automobiles and aerial photography rather than pedestrians — the human experience on the sidewalk is dwarfed by the proportions. For this reason Century Avenue is best understood as an urban form rather than experienced as a street. The sequence of towers visible from the boulevard, including the three Lujiazui supertalls, gives the clearest sense of Pudong's skyline composition. Metro Lines 2 and 4 to Lujiazui or World Expo.
