Duolun Road Cultural Street

Preserved 1930s cultural street in Hongkou once home to leftist writers including Lu Xun

A preserved 1930s commercial street in Hongkou, Duolun Road was where Shanghai's Republican-era literary and political intelligentsia gathered — Lu Xun, Mao Dun, Guo Moruo, and other writers and political figures who shaped 20th-century China lived and worked on this street. The street has been pedestrianised and partially restored, with historical markers identifying the former residences.

The Lu Xun Memorial Hall at the south end of Duolun Road documents the life and work of China's most important modern writer. The street itself — lined with 1920s and 1930s commercial buildings, punctuated by bronze statues of the literary figures who walked it — is one of the most legible surviving examples of Republican-era Shanghai intellectual life.
