Zhou Enlai Residence

Wartime headquarters of the Communist delegation to Shanghai, 1946-47

A grey Tudor-style house on Sinan Lu where the future first Premier of the People's Republic lived between 1946 and 1947, when he was the Communist Party's representative to Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist government during the failed peace negotiations after Japan's defeat. Furniture, telegram equipment and Zhou's bicycle survive; a press conference room downstairs holds photographs of the era.

Free entry. A useful pendant to the Sun Yat-sen residence a few streets away.
