Sihang Warehouse is a 1931 warehouse on Suzhou Creek that became one of the best-known sites of the Battle of Shanghai. In 1937, a Chinese battalion held the building for several days as the National Revolutionary Army retreated, turning the defence into a symbolic act of resistance against the Japanese advance.
Part of the building is now a memorial and museum about the defence of the warehouse and the wider battle. The bullet-scarred facade and creekside setting make the history easier to grasp than a gallery alone would. It is a strong stop for anyone interested in wartime Shanghai.
