Suzhou Creek Walk

Rehabilitated creek walk separating Hongkou from Jing'an, lined with warehouses-turned-galleries

The creek that separates Hongkou from the Jing'an district has been developed into a 42-kilometre waterfront walk from its confluence with the Huangpu River west to the Zhejiang-Shanghai border. The section closest to central Shanghai, from the Waibaidu Bridge to the Zichang Road area, passes through a sequence of converted industrial buildings, former warehouses, and new development that documents the creek's evolution from industrial waterway to cultural corridor.

The walk is entirely free and accessible at any hour. The converted warehouses on the south bank (now galleries, studios, and bars) and the preserved industrial infrastructure on the north bank give a compressed sense of Shanghai's 20th-century industrial history. The Sichuan Road bridge views are particularly good at dusk.
