Laukontori Market Square

Laukontori is a market square on the south shore of the Tammerkoski Rapids where Lake Pyhäjärvi begins. In summer it becomes Tampere's most lively outdoor gathering spot, with market stalls, outdoor seating at the restaurant barges moored along the waterfront, and the Tampere-Virrat ferry departing from the adjacent quay.

The restaurant barges — essentially converted boats with tables and grills — are one of Tampere's most distinctive summer experiences. Order local lake fish and eat on the water while watching the city go by. In winter the square is quieter but the views over the frozen lake are good. Mustamakkara (blood sausage with lingonberry jam) is sold from the market stalls year-round.
