Tampere Workers' Theatre

Founded in 1901, the Tampere Workers' Theatre (Tampereen Työväen Teatteri, TTT) is one of Finland's oldest and largest theatres, and has a particular significance in Finnish cultural life as a theatre built by and for the working class in the era of the Finlayson factory boom. The current building on Hämeenpuisto has an impressive art nouveau interior.

Programming is primarily Finnish-language drama and musicals. The theatre is an important institutional part of Tampere's identity as a working-class city, which makes it an interesting institution to attend even if the language barrier is a factor. Check for productions during the Tampere Theatre Festival in August, when some performances have surtitles.
