Tampere University (formed in 2019 from the merger of the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology) anchors the eastern end of the city centre, and the campus area running along Kalevantie is one of the livelier parts of town. Student cafes, bookshops, and the university's own cultural venues contribute to the area's energy.
The university's main building on Kalevantie houses a small gallery space with rotating exhibitions. The campus runs events and lectures that are sometimes open to the public. Worth wandering through if you are heading east from the centre toward Tammela.
