Tammela is a working-class residential neighbourhood east of the city centre that has acquired a reputation for independent cafes, bars, and small creative businesses without being gentrified out of its original character. Tammelan puistokatu (the park street that runs along the neighbourhood's northern edge) has a good concentration of independent bars and restaurants.
The Tammelantori market square is a neighbourhood market with stalls running on weekday mornings — smaller and less polished than the main market hall but genuinely local. The Music Bar Amadeus on Tammelan puistokatu is the most noted live music venue in the neighbourhood.
