Näsinneula Observation Tower

Näsinneula rises from the Särkänniemi headland on the north shore of Lake Näsijärvi, giving the most expansive views available anywhere in the Tampere area. On a clear day the panorama extends over both major lakes and well into the surrounding Pirkanmaa forests. The observation deck is at 124 metres; the rotating restaurant above it at 134 metres.

The tower is part of the Särkänniemi complex, which also includes an aquarium, a planetarium, and a theme park. You can buy a ticket for just the tower if the amusement park doesn't appeal. The walk along the lakefront path from the city centre to Särkänniemi takes about 20 minutes and is one of the better urban walks in Finland.

A story
At 168 metres, Näsinneula is the tallest freestanding tower in Finland and one of the tallest in Scandinavia. It was built in 1971 as part of the Särkänniemi amusement park complex and still sits on that headland above Lake Näsijärvi. The tower contains a rotating restaurant at the top — which completes one full rotation per hour — making it an expensive but memorable dinner option if you time it right.
