The Tampere Film Festival, held each March, is one of the oldest and most respected short film festivals in the world. It has run since 1969 and regularly attracts around 100 competing films from over 50 countries. The festival uses the Finnkino Plevna cinema in the Finlayson area as its main venue, along with several other screens around the city.
If you are in Tampere in March, the festival is worth building your visit around — short film programmes run throughout the day and evenings, tickets are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is more relaxed and accessible than most major European film festivals. Many screenings include English subtitles.
