Tampere Central Square (Keskustori) is the city's main public space, a large open plaza at the western end of Hämeenkatu beside the city hall. The square hosts the outdoor market on most weekday mornings, political demonstrations, outdoor events, and an ice skating rink in winter.
The city hall and surrounding early 20th-century commercial buildings give the square a confident civic scale. The Christmas market that runs through December is one of the better ones in Finland — not as large as Helsinki's but more manageable and with a good selection of Finnish craft and food stalls.
