Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen preserves the former East German secret police prison in Berlin. Visits are by guided tour, often with guides who can explain how the prison and interrogation system worked.
It is a sobering but important stop for understanding the Stasi state beyond the better-known museum at the former headquarters.
