The Neues Museum is one of the essential stops on Berlin's Museum Island. Reopened in 2009 after wartime destruction and a careful reconstruction, it combines Egyptian, prehistoric, and classical collections in a building where damaged brick, restored frescoes, and new architectural work sit side by side.
The star exhibit is the bust of Nefertiti, but the museum is more than a single room. Give yourself time for the Egyptian galleries, the prehistoric material, and the building itself, which is one of Berlin's most thoughtful examples of restoration after catastrophe.
