The Mauerweg is Berlin's Wall Trail, following the former border line through the city and around its edge. This southern stretch runs for about 18 km from Lichterfelde toward Neukölln, mostly on asphalt through the open space left by the former death strip.
The wall itself is mostly gone here, which is part of the point. Young trees, memorial plaques, and a cherry-blossom avenue mark a landscape where the absence is more powerful than another preserved slab of concrete.
