Leopoldplatz

Wedding's central square, anchored by Schinkel's austere Nazarethkirche

The civic heart of Wedding, a broad square at the meeting of Müllerstraße and Schulstraße, dominated by the Alte Nazarethkirche — a plain, dignified church designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1832-35 as one of four near-identical suburban churches for Berlin's growing northern districts. A larger neo-Gothic church stands alongside it.

The square itself is ordinary, busy Berlin street life: a weekly market, benches, the comings and goings of one of the city's most diverse neighbourhoods. It works best as a starting point for a wander up Müllerstraße or into the surrounding Sprengelkiez rather than as a destination in itself.
