Rajon Ki Baoli

15th-century stepwell hidden inside Mehrauli Archaeological Park, built for Lodi-era masons

Rajon Ki Baoli is a 15th-century stepwell hidden inside the Mehrauli Archaeological Park, just a short walk from the Qutb Minar complex. Built during the Lodi period, this four-storey stepped structure descends steeply to a water chamber below ground level, its walls lined with niches that once held oil lamps. The craftsmanship of the carved brackets and arched galleries is exceptional.

The baoli ("stepwell") name derives from the masons (rajon) who used to gather here. Unlike more famous Delhi monuments it sees few visitors, making it one of those rare spots where you can be almost alone with a genuinely beautiful medieval structure. The Mehrauli Archaeological Park surrounds it with forests and dozens of other Mughal and Sultanate-era ruins.
