Tomb of Adham Khan

16th-century Mughal tomb in Mehrauli built for Akbar's foster-brother, thrown from Agra Fort

The Tomb of Adham Khan is a 16th-century Mughal monument in Mehrauli, built for Adham Khan, a general of Emperor Akbar who was executed after murdering a court official in a fit of rage. Emperor Akbar had him thrown twice from the fort ramparts — the large domed structure was built over the graves of Adham Khan and his mother Maham Anga. The British used it as a rest house and police station in the 19th century before its heritage value was recognised.

The double-storeyed octagonal tomb stands prominently at a crossroads in Mehrauli village. Its thick walls, vaulted chambers, and rooftop terraces offer excellent views of the Qutb Minar complex nearby. The surrounding Mehrauli Archaeological Park contains dozens of other tombs and ruins within easy walking distance.
