Amager Beach Park is Copenhagen's urban beach — a 4.6-kilometre stretch of sand and water on the island of Amager, just south of the city and reachable by metro (Amager Strand station). An artificial lagoon was created in 2005 alongside the original beach, and the whole area was upgraded into a proper recreational park with a promenade, volleyball courts, a skate park, and several beach bars.
In summer the beach is genuinely good — clean water, consistent sand, and on a clear day a view across to Sweden. The lagoon is calmer and better for families with young children; the outer beach has the more exposed conditions. It is about 20 minutes from the city centre by metro, which makes it a realistic option on a warm afternoon. Bring your own food or use the beach bars.
