Superkilen is a 750-metre urban park that runs through the heart of Nørrebro, designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) with the concept that each element in the park was sourced from a different country represented by Nørrebro's immigrant population. The result is genuinely strange and wonderful: a Moroccan fountain next to a Thai boxing ring, Japanese swings, a Yemeni umbrella, a Serbian trampoline, all set in a landscape of bold graphic stripes.
The park is divided into three zones — red, black, and green — each with a different character. The red zone near Nørrebrogade is the most intense, the green zone at the northern end more conventional. It is a working park used by locals every day, not just an art project, and the mix of people using it reflects Nørrebro's diversity better than any statistics.
