Royal Danish Naval Museum

The Royal Danish Naval Museum traces Denmark's seafaring history from Viking longships to modern vessels. Housed in a former naval hospital building on Christianshavn, the collection includes navigational instruments, ship models, uniforms, and artefacts from centuries of maritime activity. The building itself, dating from the 18th century, is one of the finest in the neighbourhood.

The museum is less visited than Copenhagen's major museums, which means it is usually quiet and unhurried. The section on the Oresund Sound and Danish control of the Baltic trade is particularly interesting. The location in Christianshavn, surrounded by canals and old naval buildings, adds appropriate context.
