The old harbour canal lined with brightly painted 17th and 18th century townhouses. Once a rough sailors' quarter, it is now Copenhagen's most photographed spot, packed with restaurants and bars. Hans Christian Andersen lived at number 20. Canal boat tours depart from the waterfront.
