Amaliehaven is a small formal garden between Amalienborg Palace and the harbour, designed by a Belgian landscape architect and donated by the A.P. Møller-Mærsk shipping family to mark their centenary. The garden has fountains, low hedges, and views across the water to the Opera House — a pleasant, formal space that links the palace square to the waterfront.
It is used as a shortcut by cyclists and pedestrians moving between Nyhavn and the northern harbour, and as a lunch spot by office workers in summer. Modest but well-maintained and with some of the best views of the Opera House available from the city side.
