Christiania's Bathing Lake

At the eastern end of Christiania, beyond the main lanes and the densely built-up commune area, a series of small lakes formed in the old moat provide a peaceful outdoor swimming spot in summer. Christiania residents have used them for decades, and visitors are welcome to swim or sunbathe on the banks. The setting — surrounded by old ramparts, with hand-built community structures visible through the trees — is unlike anything else near central Copenhagen.

The water is calmer than the harbour baths and the atmosphere more relaxed. No facilities, no lifeguards, no charge. Best on warm summer evenings when the light is good and the commune is alive with activity around the lake's edges.
