Copenhagen Harbour Promenade

The Copenhagen Harbour Promenade runs along the inner harbour from the Black Diamond library north to Nyhavn and beyond, connecting a series of waterfront spaces that have been opened up since the 1990s. The walk passes the Royal Library garden, the Krøyers Plads residential development, Gammel Strand, and eventually reaches the coloured houses of Nyhavn.

The whole promenade is flat, mostly car-free, and lined with converted warehouses, new residential buildings, and harbour-facing cafes and restaurants. On a summer evening it is one of the best walks in the city — people cycle, eat outside, sit by the water, and the scale of the harbour gives a sense of openness unusual in a dense European capital.
