227 Abolitionist Place marks one of Brooklyn's best-known Underground Railroad sites. Thomas and Harriet Truesdell, active members of the borough's abolitionist community, lived on Duffield Street in the early 19th century, and the site became part of the local fight to preserve Brooklyn's abolitionist history.
The original house no longer survives in its early form, so this is a heritage stop rather than a conventional museum visit. It is most worthwhile for visitors tracing abolitionist and Underground Railroad history in Brooklyn, especially in combination with nearby Brooklyn Heights and Plymouth Church.
