The Studio Museum in Harlem has championed art by artists of African descent since 1968. It is internationally recognised as the most important institution of its kind and has launched the careers of numerous artists. The museum is currently relocating to a new purpose-built building at 144 West 125th Street designed by David Adjaye; check the current exhibition programme before visiting.
