Park Slope is a residential neighbourhood of late 19th-century brownstone rowhouses on the western slope of Prospect Park. Seventh Avenue is the main commercial street, lined with independent bookshops, restaurants and cafes that retain a neighbourhood character largely absent from hipper Brooklyn. Fifth Avenue, a block east, is more diverse and less expensive. The brownstones on the numbered streets between Prospect Park West and Seventh Avenue represent some of the finest Victorian urban residential architecture in the United States.
