The High Line is a 1.45-mile elevated park built on a decommissioned 1934 freight rail line above the west side of Manhattan. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District north to 34th Street, passing through the West Village and Chelsea. The planting scheme by landscape architects Piet Oudolf uses wild grasses and perennials. The views west to the Hudson River and east over the city rooftops are unique.
