Florentin

Florentin is the city's graffiti, bar, and young-professionals quarter, immediately east of Neve Tzedek. It is gritty, lively, and the closest thing Tel Aviv has to a Berlin Kreuzberg. The signature streets are Florentin itself, Vital, and Levanda.

Walking is the way to see it: alleys covered in spray-painted murals, warehouses repurposed as performance spaces, kiosks that double as bars at night, and the small daytime food spots that anchor the neighbourhood. Best in the evening; bring water in the summer.

A story
Florentin was a Greek-Jewish working-class district from the 1920s — named for a developer from Salonica — and remained a low-rent industrial neighbourhood for most of the twentieth century. It then went through a slow gentrification in the 2000s as artists, young professionals, and bars took over the warehouses. The graffiti, the workshops, and the cheaper rents are still there alongside the new bars.
