Hundertwasser Drinking Fountain

The Hundertwasser Drinking Fountain stands on a small patch of pavement outside the Dizengoff Centre, easy to miss in the middle of a busy intersection. It is a single small column topped with a golden onion dome, with a working drinking spout at the base.

A five-minute curiosity that punches above its weight on the city walking tour, and worth photographing in the late afternoon when the ceramic tiles catch the sun.

A story
The Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser made three public drinking fountains in his lifetime — one in Vienna, one in Hamburg, and this one. The Tel Aviv fountain was installed in 1996 outside the Dizengoff Centre as a gift to the city, and it carries his characteristic onion dome and brightly coloured ceramic tiles.
