Rothschild Boulevard

Rothschild Boulevard runs north from Habima Square down to the southern end of the original 1909 grid, with a wide central tree-lined median for walking and cycling. It is the iconic Tel Aviv street: lined with Bauhaus apartment blocks, dotted with small kiosks selling juice and coffee, busy from early morning to late at night.

The boulevard is the spine of the White City, the part of Tel Aviv that earned UNESCO World Heritage status for its Bauhaus and International Style architecture. The standard walk takes about an hour from Habima down to the southern end, stopping at the Independence Hall, the kiosks, and the public art along the median.

A story
The Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel was read by David Ben-Gurion on 14 May 1948 at number 16 Rothschild Boulevard, then the Tel Aviv home of Meir Dizengoff and later the city's art museum. The building, Independence Hall, is now a national museum on the boulevard.
