HaTachana (Old Jaffa Railway Station)

HaTachana is the restored 1892 Jaffa railway station, the original terminus of the Jaffa-Jerusalem railway and the first station in the Middle East. After it fell out of use in the 1940s the buildings were abandoned for decades; in 2009 the entire complex was reopened as a public square ringed by restaurants, shops, and a small museum.

The Ottoman-era stationhouse, the original German Templer warehouse, and a preserved railway carriage are the central features. The square is unusually generous by Tel Aviv standards and a useful pause point on the walk between Neve Tzedek and the southern beaches.
